Lyle Mays
Being a prominent member of the Pat Metheny Group, Lyle Mays also played and toured with the Woody Herman Orchestra from 1975 to 1976, before leading his own trio on acoustic piano, heading sessions for Geffen Records. Influenced by Herbie Hancock and Keith Jarrett, Mays surprised many with his 1992 acoustic album “Fictionary”, assisted by bassist Marc Johnson and drummer Jack Dejohnette. The recording featured mostly his own compositions and included two free improvisations. One of his more recent releases was the 2000 full-length, “Solo”.
